Oroville Travel Guide

Welcome to Oroville!
Known as a getaway from big city life, Oroville provides numerous fun activities and relaxing scenery in its small town located in Northeast Washington. In 1892, the town was originally named Oro meaning “gold” in Spanish due to the surrounding gold mines. In 1909, the name was changed to Oroville since there was already a town named Oso in Washington State. Oroville borders Lake Osoyoos, which offers visitors and locals alike the opportunity to enjoy recreational pursuits such as fishing, boating, waterskiing, sailing and tubing. The lake also spans into the Canadian town of Osoyoos in the province of British Columbia. Oroville is also home to Osoyoos Lake State Veteran's Memorial Park offering outdoor activities and a campground. There are also several wineries in the area, many of which offer on-site tastings and tours. The annual Tumbleweed Film Festival offers film screenings at some of the local wineries. For those wanting to learn more about the local area and its history, a good place to visit is the Oroville Depot Museum, which also houses the Oroville Visitor Information CenterTourist Attractions
